Al-Anon & Alateen

Al-Anon is a worldwide network of self-help groups offering understanding and support for families and friends of problem drinkers, whether the alcoholic is Alateen is a part of Al-Anon.

For young people aged 12 - 20 who have been affected by someone's else's drinking, usually that of a parent. Alateen provides
understanding and support, which helps them to improve lives and recognise that they are no
longer alone and learn about alcoholism as a "family illness".

change drinking habits:

• Assessment/counselling/advice
offered to problem drinkers
and/or their families.
• Home detox carried out
if appropriate.

NORCAS Youth Service

Services include:
• Support, information and advice
on alcohol and drugs for young people 11-25 (priority 13-21);
• Identification/assessment of young people's needs;
• One to one interview;

• Informal educational workshops to young people on alcohol and
drug issues at various venues dependent on need (e.g. youth clubs, young women’s projects);
• Guidance, information,
workshops and advice to other professionals on alcohol to volatile substance abuse;
• "Mobile" work (rural areas);
• HIV Safe Sex workshops;
• Flexible, a commitment to good practice and adherence to SCODA’s and legal centre’s
principles of working with young drug users;

programme providing intensive
abstinence based treatment for
client and families with drug and
alcohol problems.

Clients may refer themselves
in any way although usually it is
done via the GP or some other
